Default happy wife is pretty bummed out

Talk about serious highs and lows... After arriving at 10am, we sat and waited for nearly 3 hours before I was even called back. Mind you, we were both still excited and upbeat. Despite the entire waiting room hearing our stomachs growl, lol. Well, the nurse checks my blood pressure, and says it's a little high. She then checked it manually, with the same results. She warned me then that ps would NOT operate if my diastolic (bottom number) was above the mid 90s (mine was in the 101-105 range). So ps comes in, after more waiting, talks to me about my bp, draws on me, and I go back to pre op to continue to keep an eye on my bp. Machine was set up to take it automatically every 5 minutes. After about 4 rounds, the anesthesiologist came and talked to me about getting my IV started. So, I'm thinking my bp must've come down. PS comes back about 3 rounds later (my bp is still being checked every 5 mins) and tells me that he will NOT perform the surgery today, due to my bp and the increased risk of bleeding. :frown: I'm so glad that my health and healing are top prioritiy, but so bummed out that we had to drive all the way back home without having the surgery. They've prescribed me some xanex (sp) for anxiety, and we rescheduled for next Wednesday, July 8 at 9am. Very sad....

I understand that you are bummed out and i am so sorry this happened. But as you said health and safety are top priority. Better safe than sorry as they say. Hang in there the week will go by fast and im sure you will do just fine the next try. On the bright side, you wont be in recovery over the 4th of july weekend.

I am so sad that you both were disappointed but glad that your PS was mindful of your elevated BP. Have you ever been diagnosed with hypertension?
I'll place your new date on our surgery calendar if you like. Just let me know.
Take your anti anxiety medication as ordered and this will help your BP too.
Gentle understandin' hugs doll,

Thanks, Tiff. Me and DH are already talking about what to throw on the grill, lol. When we bought our house a few months ago, we got a Weber Performer one touch ignition grill. Talk about the best of both worlds.

That's the really shocking thing!! I'm a teacher, and we have health screenings every year. I'm that person that everyone else gives the evil eye and gags at because all the nurses in the room are openly praising me for how amazingly good all of my readings are!!! I am a worrier by nature, but I was so at peace and looking forward to this. I didn't 'feel' like I was anxious or worked up. I tried so hard to relax as much as I could, but I guess today just wasn't my day. Definitely put my new date on the calendar, please. You know we don't scare off that easily in Bama, lol!

I am so sorry your surgery got postponed. At least you don't have long to wait and your PS was being very cautious of your well being.. Hang in there and you will have your surgery before you know it..

Anticipating surgery then having to wait 3 hours would make anyones bp go up -- mine would be up too....but always better to be safe than sorry - one week will pass very quickly. Good luck.

I'm sorry that you couldn't have your surgery. I know how disappointed you must be. But the 8th will be here before you know it.

I'm sorry you have to wait hun but your health is more important. It is good that the PS postponed your surgery if he didn't it could've led to complications. Everything will be okay.

That's a bummer for the rescheduling but with respect to the ps for being cautious not to proceed due to concerns for your safety and risk of complications. Enjoy your 4th fireworks, soon you will have your BIG bang!!!

I know I would be going to my local pharmacy or such an putting my arm in those BP machines to see how it is doing. Have you done that lately? Just a thought.

Well, I'm going to do everything I can to be 'heart healthy' and get my bp in check. I got up this morning, and got back to my beloved FitTV and did the hour long All Star Workout. Then, after lunch, I cut the grass. I did the backyard, with a self-propelled push mower mind you, which is over 1/2 an acre. Cardio everyday until surgery!!!!!!!!!
