Captique Dermal Lip Filler

Captique is in the hyaluronic acid filler family. Captique is a dermal filler for moderate to significant facial wrinkles or folds and also lip augmentation. Captique was approved by the FDA in December 2004 and is made by Allergan Corporation and Genzyme Biosurgery. There is no need for allergy testing as Captique is a non-animal hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that occurs naturally in the body.

Captique is indicated for correction in the following areas:

ADVANTAGES OF CAPTIQUE:

  • Captique is a safe treatment when injected correctly and give the benefits of a younger or fresher appearance. It effectively reduces or eliminates moderate or severe wrinkles, lines, and works well in the nasolabial folds. It is also a safe product to use for lip augmentation.

  • Captique has been known to last longer than some of the other collagen based fillers, however is much shorter in duration of time compared to the other hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, etc.

  • Captique is a softer hyaluronic acid compared to Restylane and has a more favorable adverse effect profile as it relates to pain, swelling and bruising.

DISADVANTAGES OF CAPTIQUE:

  • Because Captique is an injection, there is always a slight risk of infection.  Being a hyaluronic acid filler some of the side effects are redness, swelling, bruising, pain and itching.  Captique injections have been reported to cause less swelling and bruising than some of the other dermal fillers available.

  • Tissue hardening and bumps around the treated area can happen if this product is not injected correct. Being a hyaluronic acid filler – these bumps will respond to hyaluronidase or “Wytase” effectively.

  • The clinical experience with Hylaform and Captique suggests that it lasts about as long as Zyplast (bovine collagen), which is for most patients around three months.
